Vertellis: Looking Back at 2019 and Looking Forward to 2020
What a year! In this blog post, we - the founders and the team behind Vertellis - share what 2019 was like for us and what we want to do in the coming year. We want to be more than just 'a game' or 'a book'... which is why we're excited to take you behind the scenes at Vertellis!
P.S. We've included 6 questions at the end to help you close out 2019 properly and enter 2020 with a bang!
Does our mission still fit?
From day one, our mission has been to bring people closer together and to stimulate time offline. But this year, we had to question this intention...
Stimulate time offline? Does that still fit? After all, we not only inspire people offline with our physical products but also inspire people online with thought-provoking social media posts, emails, blog posts (like this!), etc. In fact: if we had started Vertellis 15 years ago (when the internet was still new), we never would have been able to make as much impact as now! So, you understand our doubts. 😉
Our 'new' mission
What suits us better is mindful handling of technology. To use it to your advantage instead of the other way around. We have never been able to communicate with each other in so many ways, yet right now, in many areas, we seem more 'apart' and 'stressed' than ever. More real connection and mindful living is the goal.
We will incorporate this awareness into Vertellis in 2020. We want to create a 'tipping point'* in awareness, togetherness, and the reduction of stress.
*Writer Malcolm Gladwell found that if you can convince 10% of a group, a 'tipping point' takes place and the entire group gets on board.
2019: a year of opportunities ...
We, as Vertellis, always try to be flexible in seizing opportunities. We are always open to collaborations, if they suit us. This year was certainly dominated by opportunities, but not everything succeeded.
… And of setbacks
By the end of 2019, we wanted to be in schools with products & teaching packages. Did not succeed. We hoped to launch a video course at the end of this year: the 'No-nonsense Happiness Course'. Deadline not met and therefore not successful. And that new card game we told our fans about a while back? Again failed.
BUT - we know this is an opportunity to reflect! It's these setbacks that have provided insights and lessons that we will take with us in the new year to get started with more energy and focus (as you can see below 😆).
The successes of 2019
Fortunately, many things went well, too! For example, we were allowed to do a pilot with Vertellis KIDS in primary schools in the Netherlands! Very cool to see how children responded to self-reflection and open communication in the classroom.
We also gave our first workshop and Vertellis (via a survey) was voted 'best workshop' of the event.
Finally, we've been working on a new video course for MONTHS that will be launching in the Netherlands at the beginning of 2020. Over 10+ weeks, this video course helps you become the happiest and most powerful version of yourself. Right now this video course is in Dutch, but if it goes well, our goal is to bring this course to other countries.
Our plans for 2020
We'll be launching a Vertellis Mindset Membership very soon. Do you already get our Vertellis Friday Questions? This goes one step further! It's like a gym membership but for your mind! We're talking weekly inspiration in the form of e-books, assignments, videos, recipes, exercises, articles and online coaching. An integral approach for a vital mindset! Keep an eye on our e-mails for more information.
But that's not all! We'll also launch an online psychology test in 2020. In 25 minutes you can find out what motivates and frustrates you...which is important to know on this rollercoaster called life!
Thank you for your support
Now - it's time thank YOU! Without fans like you, Vertellis would not exist!
That's why we want to make our new initiatives even more attractive for you next year. Keep an eye on your inbox, because we are going to come up with very cool things!
Finally, we share some questions below so you can reflect on 2019 and look forward to 2020. Close this year properly and enter the new decade with INTENTION!
Write down the answers and/or share them with your loved ones. Enjoy!

We played for the first time on turkey day. All went well until the question “What or who surprised you the most this past year?” And I answered “The people reluctant to get the Covid shot”. Boom!!! My mom and neighbor went head to head. Ha. But important conversation happened and opinions were heard.
It’s a Christmas gift
Last night was the first time I had an opportunity to ask some friends and my sister's family to play the game. I gave each a card and asked them to read it and they could choose to pass or share their answer with the rest of us. They all played(one reluctantly), but that was okay. Sharing brought up both tears and laughter. I realized I would not be able to play this game with my immediate family because it brings too much to the surface, but will take to play with my 7 close girl friends who have walked through both fire and ice with me. So thank you. I think it's healthy to let yourself feel tender and strong emotions with people you trust.
