How I fell in love with journaling and how it helped me build a stronger connection with myself and with others.

Today I would like to share a personal story with you. Care to join me?

After finishing high school, I went to university. I figured out during my first year that this was not the right path for me. So I dropped out and decided to leave university behind for good. 

Everyone told me I wouldn’t have a future without a degree. Although I stood by my decision, hearing this made me feel pretty anxious and insecure. I had to find some way to learn, grow and develop without having to attend university. And I found it: journaling.

After keeping a journal for over 15 years and inspiring millions of people around the world to do the same, here’s what I learned:

Don’t be a perfectionist.

You don’t have to write every single day, as long as you enjoy it. Focus on the experience itself and how it makes you feel, rather than making it a ‘to-do’. Here’s a tip: ask yourself the following two questions when you’re reflecting on your day: what is going well? What could be better?

By using this framework, you prioritize positive thinking. What’s more, you actively avoid negative thinking, which is a common mistake in journaling!

What else happened when I started journaling? My relationship with my family improved and I became more aware of my relationships. And another thing: I feel happier and the days don’t fly by as much as they used to. I feel more present and in control. Oh, and I sleep a lot better!

Another reason why journaling works so well for me is that it helps me spend less time online and on my phone. It’s just me, my pen and my journal. Old-school offline. It’s that easy!

I see more and more people around me who have gotten into the habit of journaling. More and more people have the desire to reflect (offline). It genuinely makes me super happy to see that people are looking inwards and consciously deciding to make the most of their days and their life. 

Fast forward to today

Because I would love to share my love for journaling with the whole world, I assembled an amazing team and together we created our journal “Vertellis Chapters”. This journal is full of guiding reflective questions, beautiful quotes and sayings, inspiring stories, and exercises that can teach you some of life’s most meaningful lessons. I hope my story will inspire you to start journaling too! I know I will keep doing it for many years to come.

Great for people new to journaling!

Journaling seems so popular these days. People who have been putting pen to paper for a while always say how helpful it is. BUT when I looked at that blank page, it was daunting. What am I supposed to write about? Where do I start? Vertellis Chapters gave me that place to start! The chapters gently guide and helped me to form a daily ritual.

An amazing Journal!!

I was given one of theses journals as a gift from a friend and was absolutely amazed at the quality. The prompts inspire me to look at things that have occurred during my day a little differently and remind me of the good things that happen everyday. I loved it so much I ended up purchasing a bundle so I had another one for when I finished mine and gave the other 3 as gifts to my sister and a couple of friends.
