6 Questions to Prepare for the New Decade

Bart Kloosterhuis

6 Meaningful Questions to Ask Before 2020

Holy cow - can you believe 2020 is almost here? I always love ringing in the new year (fresh start, anyone?), but this new year seems particularly significant since we’re heading into a whole new DECADE! With the help of the Vertellis Holiday Edition, in this post, I’ll share six questions you can ask yourself to gather wisdom from the last 10 years and dream for the next 10 years, as well!

Reflect over the past year

Over Thanksgiving, I brought out the Vertellis Holiday Edition to play with my family after dinner. As we went around the table reflecting on the past year and looking ahead to the new year, I found myself thinking not just about the past year but the past DECADE. I also felt compelled to look forward not just to the upcoming year but to the upcoming TEN years.

“Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years.” - Bill Gates

With less than a month until 2020, now is the perfect time to take some space and reflect on the last decade while looking ahead to the coming decade, as well.

Using a pen and paper, answer these six questions from the Vertellis Holiday Edition. The insights you gain will help you discover what’s most important to you, give you a chance to celebrate your accomplishments, and dream about what you’d like to experience over the next 10 years!

Keep in mind: this isn't about creating a “10-year-plan”. It's a space to reflect and think about what you want your future to hold. After all, how can you work towards what you want if you don’t know where you want to go? 😉

6 Questions to Prepare for the New Decade

Looking Back…

Looking back over the last ten years...answer these questions:

Pro tip: Answer truthfully from your heart, not what you have been “coached” or “told” to believe.

  1. Of which personal achievement are you most proud?
  2. What was one of your best decisions?
  3. With the knowledge you have now, what would you have done differently?

Looking Forward…

Looking ahead to the next ten years...answer these questions:

Pro tip: Don’t be afraid to dream big - and be honest! What do you really want?

  1. What do you want to achieve in the next ten years?
  2. What will be in the pictures you take?
  3. What will you do for the first time in your life?

Bonus!

From Vertellis Chapters:

What will you stop, start, and continue in the next decade?

Think about habits, activities, work, hobbies...what brings you joy that you’d like to start or continue and what are you less enthusiastic about that you’d like to drop or change?
